Hacker moved $83M in stolen XRP from Bitget exchange
Leans negative
Large theft and inability to freeze funds is bad news
What happened
Someone stole XRP tokens (worth about $83 million) tied to a hack of the Bitget exchange, and has now moved that money around. Unlike some other crypto assets, XRP isn't set up so its creator, Ripple, can freeze or claw back stolen funds.
Why it matters
If you don't hold XRP or don't use Bitget, this doesn't directly affect you, but it's a reminder that stolen crypto on public blockchains can be very hard to recover.
Should I do anything?
There's nothing to do unless you have funds on Bitget or hold XRP through that exchange, in which case it's worth checking Bitget's official statements for any account impact. This isn't a reason to panic about the broader crypto market.
